PROCESSING WITH MILO LOCKER
PROCESSING WITH MILO LOCKER
At Milo Locker, we keep beef processing easy and efficient. Farmers may schedule cattle drop-off online or by calling 641-942-6231 ($50 per animal fee applies to cancellations made within 14 days).
All customers may place orders online, by phone, or in person, and we’ll notify you as soon as your processing is complete.
Important Pick Up Notes:
• Pick up within 10 days to avoid $5/day per tray storage fees
• Bring containers for transporting your meat
• Items left over 60 days are considered abandoned
At Milo Locker, we believe in being transparent so you know exactly what to expect. Every animal is different, and the way you choose to have it cut, whether boneless or bone in, with more or less fat trimmed, will affect the final amount you take home. During processing, weight is naturally reduced as the hide, blood, offal, fat, and bones are removed, leaving you with clean, table ready cuts that are carefully packaged for your freezer. See below for an estimated breakdown with numbers.
• Slaughtering – Beef yields about 58%–65% of live weight (i.e. 1,200 lb steer dresses out at 696–780 lbs)
• Processing – Packaged beef is about 50%–65% of dressed weight (i.e. 700 lb carcass, expect 350–455 lbs)
Frequently Asked Questions
What types of beef do you process?
We process cattle from local farmers for custom orders as well as beef purchased by Milo Locker’s custom quarter, half, and whole beef programs.
How should my cattle be prepared for drop-off?
Farmers must schedule drop-off in advance. Cattle should be healthy and properly cared for before transport. Please call 641-942-6231 or use our online scheduling system to book your harvest appointment.
Can I place a custom beef order without scheduling a drop-off appointment?
Yes. If you are ordering a quarter, half, or whole beef through Milo Locker, you simply place your order online, by phone, or in person. Only farmers bringing in cattle need to schedule drop-off.
How long will it take to receive my custom beef order?
Timing depends on whether we have aged beef already available. If so, your order can often be processed and ready within a week. If aging is still required, the carcass will be dry aged in our holding cooler for 7 to 14 days before processing. In that case, please allow up to 3 weeks from the time of your order until your beef is ready for pickup.
How will my beef be packaged?
Every cut is vacuum sealed, labeled, and frozen right away to preserve freshness and flavor. This ensures your beef stays safe and delicious for months in your freezer.
What kinds of beef products can I order?
You can tailor your order to fit your preferences. Choose the cuts you love such as steaks, roasts, stew meat, ribs, and more. We also offer specialty items such as beef sticks, jerky, and much more.
How do I place my order?
Orders can be placed online, by phone, or in person.
What payments do you accept?
We accept cash, credit card, and EBT.
What happens if I don’t pick up my beef on time?
Orders must be picked up within 10 days of notification to avoid storage fees ($5.00 per tray per day). Products left for more than 60 days will be considered abandoned and become the property of Milo Locker Meats.
What if I cancel my appointment?
Farmers who cancel an animal less than 14 days before the scheduled appointment will be charged a $50.00 cancellation fee per animal.
Milo Locker Meats began in 1952 as a small, family-owned meat processing facility committed to serving its local community. From the very beginning, the goal was simple: provide high-quality, trustworthy meat products while supporting the families and farmers that make up our region.
For over seven decades, Milo Locker has stayed true to its roots — family owned, community focused, and customer driven. In 2016, a move into a modernized, expanded facility allowed us to scale up our operations while preserving the high standards and personal service that built our reputation.
With USDA inspection and expert-level custom meat processing, our team works closely with local farmers to bring responsibly sourced, flavorful meat to your table. Whether it’s wild game, bulk beef bundles, or in-house specialty items like brats, everything we do is centered around quality, transparency, and care.
Our mission remains the same: to deliver clean, local meat you can trust — and to build lasting relationships along the way.
Your satisfaction is very important to us. While we cannot accept returns on perishable products, we want you to feel completely confident choosing us for your processing needs.
If you have any concerns with your order, whether about quality, service, or anything else, please reach out to our support team. We are here to listen and will do everything we can to make things right quickly and fairly.
Because we process every order with freshness in mind, we ask that you contact us within 48 hours of receiving your order if you notice any issues. Our team will guide you through the next steps and ensure your concern is taken care of.
